After studying Tool’s Schism bass line (this guy pretty much nails it) I decided I needed a RAT distortion pedal after also looking here
After looking at the steep cost curve of the actual Rat pedals and having a brief flirtation with making my own pedals, I decided making my own would be the best option. Allegedly the newer Rat pedals do not come with the LM308 op-amp and don’t actually sound like Rat pedals anymore, so would need to be modded anyway.
I am a regular customer of Barry Stendel’s GuitarPCB.com, and bought his awesome Rat PCB board. First thing was to get a LM308 and then research into interesting stuff I could add to it. Diode switching, flaming howl of death mod. Awesome
I designed the enclosure after a stop for inspiration at google images, and voila! a pedal that betters the original in a number of ways.
Now all I need is the chorus (coming from GuitarPCB soon) and a whammy pedal….. I think I may buy that 😉
