The creation of Reclamation has taken up a huge part of my time recently.
Writing, drawing, illustration, coloring, editing, texting – making sure everything you have done actually tells the story you set out to tell. It is HARD work.
One of the biggest pieces that I have enjoyed however is the illustration. The pencil work. The inking, the use of Fudenosuke pens. For me, it shows just how fun this kind of pursuit actually is. The sadness of realizing that you need an extra inch of content on the right of the image, that the detail in the center is going to be covered by a speech bubble and the work on the left of the image isn’t going to be shown at all, at the time of creation is taken away and allows you to be taken into the environment you are creating. The pencil/ink combo for me feels much more comic book
It is actually fun to see the design ideas progress up through sketches into color and then on the page.
Whether anyone actually notices, likes, or appreciates the work you have put in is entirely another thing, but just to see progress is satisfying.
